Famous Cookie Creamery Opens on Ocean City Boardwalk

Just in time for the busy shore season, Philadelphia’s beloved Famous 4th Street Cookie Company and Bassetts Ice Cream have opened a new Famous Cookie Creamery on the Ocean City Boardwalk offering ice cream sandwiches, and ice cream and cookies. These iconic Philly brands located in the Reading Terminal Market have collaborated many times and share a special bond. Two years ago, they opened the first Famous Cookie Creamery in Wildwood and have now expanded to Ocean City.

When I walked in and started looking at the menu, one of the scoopers asked, “Do you want a free sample of our Cinnamon Toast Crunch shake?”

I must have looked startled because he followed that with, “The people who were here last ordered one and there’s some extra left over.”

Of course I want to try it!

He hands me a cup and I sip it and begin to look at my cookie options.

“It’s good, isn’t it?” he asked, nodding towards my sample. “It’s like drinking a bowl of cereal.”

It was exactly like that, rich, creamy and just plain good. Now on to my “entrée” – the cookie sandwich.

Chocolate chip. Peanut butter chocolate chip. Snickerdoodle, No need to pick just one… the sandwiches at FCC can be made with two different cookies. Mind. Blown.

Rick’s Road Trip: Jersey Shore businesses are ready for the summer

They only opened 2 weeks ago, but already, Famous Cookie Creamery on the boardwalk in Ocean City has become a cool destination for both ice cream and cookie lovers.

Manager Ryan Schwartz says being the ‘new kid on the block’ has been sweet so far.

“We are just hoping for a good stress-free summer. Those employment issues, at least for us, are settling down. We’ve hired a bunch of local college kids, high school kids, down in Ocean City, Egg Harbor Township, and so we’re excited to get people together again, provide a service to people on the boardwalk,” said Ryan Schwartz, manager of Famous Cookie Creamery.

Localish Presents: A delicious dessert collab in Wildwood
Famous Cookie Creamery brings two iconic Philadelphia brands, Famous 4th Street Cookie Company and Bassetts Ice Cream Company, together at the Jersey shore.

When Famous 4th Street Cookie Company owner, Tina Phillips, was headed to a children’s party, she brought, of course, cookies and also some Bassetts Ice Cream.

“You know, these would be amazing to have ice cream cookie sandwiches. So I put the ice cream together with the cookies. And while this idea was born, everyone was so happy to get these ice cream sandwiches. They couldn’t believe how good they were,” says Phillips.

The Bassetts loved the idea!
